What do you do? I am a full-time marketing professional for a web hosting company. My main duties include technical writing, content creation and SEO, with some web and offline design here and there. I do freelance web and print design during my spare time.

Where are you located? At present I live in Vancouver, BC, home of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Can I get a quote? Of course! Just contact me and we can further discuss your requirements.

Do you work on a fixed fee or per hour basis? Because I only take on design projects in my spare time, it will be easier for me to charge a fixed fee, and doing so, I will insist on a firm project plan with a change control process to insure I don’t end up working at a loss and you get your project within reasonsable time.

What do you do if a project requires something not in your skill set? If a project should require scripting or programming work that I cannot do, I will send the project to other individual(s). This will be done in a transparent manner and you will not be charged extra money.

If a project should require something that needs specific assistance that is beyond the scope of my skill set (ie. audio/video editing, printing) I will farm that piece of work out to other individuals. I do not add extra money on top of their quote.

I have an existing website but I am not satisfied with it. Can you help? Of course! Just send me the URL via the contact form and we can further discuss your requirements.

Do I need to send a deposit for the work? Yes, deposit (or down payment) is an industry standard.

For RUSH projects, a 55% deposit is due at the delivery of the mock-up, with the remainder due upon the delivery of the finished project.

For NON-RUSH projects, a 30% deposit is due at the delivery of the mock-up, with the remainder due upon the delivery of the finished project.

What is your preferred method of payment? I accept money-orders, cheques, PayPal and cash.

What is the process? Before I begin the project, we will go over your requirements via email. I will ask questions about your vision of the project, target audiences, favorite colors, etc. I will then use these information to draft your service agreement and design the mock-up. The mock-up and a service agreement will be emailed to you for review. If you’re satisfied with it, you will need to sign the service agreement and send it back to me along with your deposit. Then, I’ll produce the final project as per the agreement and any concerns/questions that you might have. The finished project will be delivered as per the agreement.

Service agreement? Yes. As a designer, I would not feel safe working without a service agreement, or contract. A clearly defined agreement that details all the aspects of the design of the project insures I give you exactly what you need in a pre-agreed time frame and budget – ie. no surprises, no “oopsies”.
